Notes on similar group 0101

1. Goods in the different parts of this similar group are not similar to one another;
2. Ammonia and anhydrous ammonia are similar to industrial volatile alkali (ammonia water) and industrial ammonia water (volatile alkali) in Part (2) of 0102, and are cross-searched with industrial volatile alkali (ammonia), industrial ammonia (volatile alkali) and industrial volatile alkali (ammonia water) in Part (2) of 0102 in the 9th and earlier editions;
3. Alkaline-earth metals are similar to magnesium in 0601.
Practice notes (J&C)
This group has two parts: (1) industrial gases (ammonia, nitrogen, argon, chlorine, protective gases for welding, dry ice, etc.); (2) elements (alkaline-earth metals, carbon, silicon, rare earths and various metallic elements). Official note 1: goods in the different parts are not similar to one another.
Ammonia and anhydrous ammonia are similar to industrial volatile alkali (ammonia water) in Part (2) of 0102 (note 2); alkaline-earth metals are similar to magnesium in 0601 (note 3). A gas company's prior search should include Part (2) of 0102, and a metal-materials company's should include 0601 in Class 6.
Practical tip: medical oxygen and medical gases are in Part (3) of 0501; when filing gas goods, classify first by intended use. No additions or deletions to this group in 2026.
