1. Goods in the different parts of this similar group are not similar to one another;

2. goods protected across similar groups: materials for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), felt for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), fabrics for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), metal foil for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), slag wool for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), mineral wool for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), glass wool for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), objects for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), glass fibres for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), glass-fibre fabrics for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), gypsum for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706), polyester staple fibre for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing (Part (1) of 1705, 1706).

3. Part (1) is cross-searched with asbestos packing materials in 1707 in the 8th and earlier editions;

4. waterproofing and heat-insulating powder is similar to waterproofing powder (coating) in 0205;

5. heat-insulating refractory materials are similar to 1907.

Practice notes (J&C)

This group has two parts: (1) soundproofing materials, thermal-insulation materials, materials for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing, asbestos products, etc.; (2) floating anti-pollution barriers. Official notes: materials, felt, fabrics, metal foil, slag wool, etc. for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing are cross-group protected goods (Part (1) of 1705, 1706); waterproofing and heat-insulating powder is similar to waterproofing powder (coating) in 0205; heat-insulating refractory materials are similar to 1907.

In 2026, “polyester staple fibre for insulation, heat insulation and soundproofing” was added to Part (1), and note 2 was extended accordingly. Thermal-insulation companies filing in Part (1) thereby cover the same-named items in 1706; building insulation materials are also searched in Class 19 (practical tip).
