1. The services in the different parts of this similar group are not similar to one another;

2. Part (1) is cross-searched with the accepted service "technical consultancy in the field of artificial intelligence and research in the field of artificial intelligence" in 4220 in the 11th and earlier editions and with physics research and mechanical research in 4214 in the 10th and earlier editions;

3. Part (2) is cross-searched with calibration (measuring) in 4210 in the 12th and earlier editions;

4. engineering drawing is similar to architectural drafting in 4217;

5. quality inspection is similar to material testing in 4214;

6. technical research, technical-project research and scientific research are similar to geological research in 4210, chemical research and cosmetic research in 4211 and bacteriological research, biological research, medical research, scientific research in the field of genetics and veterinary-science research in 4212;

7. scientific-laboratory services are similar to medical-laboratory services and biomanufacturing-laboratory services in 4212.

This group has two parts, which are not similar to one another: (1) technical research, engineering, physics research, mechanical research, technical-project research, scientific-laboratory services, etc.; (2) calibration (measuring), quality control, quality inspection, quality evaluation, etc. Official notes: technical and scientific research are similar to geological research in 4210, chemical research in 4211 and biomedical research in 4212; quality inspection is similar to material testing in 4214; engineering drawing is similar to architectural drafting in 4217; note 6 added “veterinary-science research” in 2026.

The prior search of research institutes and testing-and-certification bodies should include 4210–4214; research in the field of artificial intelligence was historically in 4220 (cross-searched in note 2) and is now in Part (1) of this group (practical tip).
