Offices with official warnings or verified fee material are listed with specific facts; jurisdictions without such material get the official domain, toolbox entry and general advice. Fee pages and official warnings are marked separately, and "pending" does not mean no official warning exists. The domain suffix must match completely, and an official domain printed on a notice may itself be imitated.

EM European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) www.euipo.europa.eu euipo.europa.eu www.tmdn.org
EU trade mark fees are paid to the EUIPO; confirm through the official User Area and fee pages; cards, bank transfer or an EUIPO current account can be used. The EUIPO's official warning states that it does not send invoices or payment requests for trade mark/design registration or renewal by post or e-mail; genuine notifications within a procedure are checked in the official User Area.
European patent procedure fees are paid to the EPO, in euros via Central Fee Payment by card, transfer or deposit account. Only the EPO automatically carries out the legally effective publication/registration of European patents. The warning page was not used to conclude that the EPO never sends invoices in any procedure. Third-party invoices claiming to publish/register on behalf of the EPO have nothing to do with the official patent procedure.

Madrid fees are paid directly to the WIPO International Bureau in Swiss francs or through the office of origin; available methods vary by transaction and start from WIPO's official eMadrid / payment pages. Private directories or publication listings have no effect under the Madrid System. Authenticity is not judged on 'receiving an e-mail or notice' alone. WIPO sends payment confirmations/receipts; check the transaction, the reference number and the official channel.

CNIPA trademark fees are charged according to the official fee items and standards. Since May 2016 the Trademark Office no longer posts paper trademark gazettes, and applicants are not asked to pay anything for the delivery of official documents. Verified: no paper trademark gazette is posted and no delivery charge is made for official documents; this does not mean trademark procedures carry no statutory official fees. General billing and the specific payment channels were not fully verified this time.
HK Intellectual Property Department www.ipd.gov.hk esearch.ipd.gov.hk efiling.ipd.gov.hk
Trademark application fees are paid to the Government of the Hong Kong SAR. The official FAQ lists crossed bank drafts in Hong Kong dollars; card payment applies to the IPD e-filing system; telegraphic transfers and foreign-currency cheques are not accepted. The general policy on sending invoices was not verified. IPD does not provide any 'trademark on the Internet' registration service and has not authorised any company to provide one.
IN Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks ipindia.gov.in tmrsearch.ipindia.gov.in
Trademark fees are paid to the Trade Marks Registry under the First Schedule of the Trade Marks Rules; e-filings must be paid at the same time; an official e-filing system exists. The general policy on sending invoices was not verified. Official alert of 2026-02-06: someone scrapes public application data and claims by phone or e-mail that a payment will get the application allowed.
JP Japan Patent Office www.jpo.go.jp www.j-platpat.inpit.go.jp
After a decision to register, the registration fee payment form must be filed with the JPO and the fee paid; for trademarks the 10-year fee can be paid at once or in two 5-year instalments. A transfer to the post office or via Pay-easy alone does not complete the payment procedure. The general policy on sending invoices was not verified. The official explanation says payment deadlines after registration are not notified individually; this does not mean the office never sends payment-related notices.
KR Ministry of Intellectual Property www.moip.go.kr www.kipris.or.kr www.kipo.go.kr
Madrid international application fees are paid item by item to KIPO or to the WIPO International Bureau. The initial international fee normally covers examination in the designated countries and the first 10-year registration fee; the official page notes that some designated countries charge an instalment after the decision to register. The general rule on invoices for Korean domestic procedures was not verified. This entry covers Madrid application fees only; some designated countries may charge instalments after the decision to register, and renewals, subsequent designations, divisions and other later steps must be checked separately.
SG Intellectual Property Office of Singapore www.ipos.gov.sg digitalhub.ipos.gov.sg
Applications, renewals and correspondence are handled in IPOS Digital Hub. Official correspondence is delivered to the account Inbox by default and the registered e-mail receives an alert; official fees in correspondence should match the fee schedule on the website. IPOS does not instruct payment by phone, SMS or e-mail; this does not exclude official fees legitimately due in Digital Hub, nor the official e-mail alerts.

The Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) accepts payment by invoice and debits from authorised official current accounts; certain procedures and services can also be paid online. Check against the official procedure and fee schedule. IPI's official payment notes expressly include payment by invoice; receiving an invoice does not in itself show the notice is fake. Paid entries in private registers or directories have no legal registration effect.
DE German Patent and Trade Mark Office www.dpma.de register.dpma.de
DPMA states the trademark fee in the filing receipt or the online filing summary and sends no further invoice or fee notice; publication in the official register carries no extra charge. The payment period runs from filing. No invoice or payment request is sent; do not wait for an invoice before paying. Check the amount and deadline in the filing receipt and on the official fee page.
ES Spanish Patent and Trademark Office www.oepm.es consultas2.oepm.es sede.oepm.gob.es
Trademark fees must follow the items and payment methods published by the OEPM; paying a private register or publication company has no additional effect on OEPM procedures or trademark protection. OEPM FAQ: fees already paid are taxes and no tax invoice is issued; e-payments provide a downloadable payment receipt, and over-the-counter bank payments are receipted by the bank. This does not mean the office never issues payment or correction notices.

French national trademark applications are filed on the INPI e-procedures portal and the filing fee is paid at filing by bank card or INPI payment account. Other procedures should be checked separately against the official fee schedule. The general rule on invoices in trademark procedures was not verified. The warning page here concerns company formalities: INPI does not send letters asking for payment by scanning a QR code.

Brazilian INPI service fees are paid through a federal payment slip (GRU) generated by the user on the INPI portal. The current official user-contact notes state clearly that INPI does not send payment demands to users. INPI's current official statement is that it never sends payment demands to users; pilot projects contacting users by phone or e-mail charge nothing, and e-mail addresses end in @inpi.gov.br.

CIPO collects the statutory trademark fees; confirm payment options in the official online services. Online payment generally accepts cards/deposit accounts; renewals and some other transactions may have restrictions. Payments for IMPI e-services are generated by the user in the Tu cuenta PASE portal; the office does not send payment forms or payment reference numbers by e-mail. What was verified is that payment forms or reference numbers are not sent by e-mail; this was not used to infer that no IMPI procedure issues bills or receipts.
US United States Patent and Trademark Office www.uspto.gov tmsearch.uspto.gov
New trademark application fees are paid through the USPTO Trademark Center; other electronic forms usually use Financial Manager. Payment is in US dollars; exceptions such as system outages follow official guidance. The USPTO states that it does not send invoices and does not call, write or e-mail registrants to press for renewal payments; official notices within a procedure must still be checked against the TSDR record.

NZ Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand www.iponz.govt.nz app.iponz.govt.nz
Trademark applications and renewals are handled in the official IPONZ case management system and fees follow the official trademark fee schedule; the alert page warns against notices asking you to file or pay on non-IPONZ websites. The general policy on sending invoices was not verified. A third party claiming 'someone wants to register your name' and pressing for payment on an unofficial website is a tactic listed by IPONZ.

S3 The fee is for 'publication / listing / register entry / registration protection / directory insertion', or an item that does not exist in the official fee schedule
Private companies charge fees for publishing or listing internationally registered trademarks in directories and may imitate WIPO's name/logo; such services have no effect under the Madrid System.
Only the EPO automatically carries out the legally effective publication/registration of European patents; similar third-party invoices have nothing to do with the official procedure.
CPATA warns that people posing as professionals escalate pressure step by step on the pretext that someone else wants to register your business name, even writing 'FINAL ATTEMPT'.
DPMA sends no invoices; the trademark fee is stated in the filing receipt or online filing summary, and publication in the official register costs nothing extra.
China National Intellectual Property Administration
Since May 2016 the Trademark Office no longer posts paper trademark gazettes and official documents are delivered without charge to the applicant; beware of gazettes sent cash-on-delivery.
IPOS reminder: people impersonating its staff send infringement e-mails and links to suspicious documents; official correspondence should be checked inside Digital Hub.
IPONZ lists: people posing as lawyers claim a third party wants to register your name and demand filing or payment on a non-IPONZ website within a short time.
OEPM reminder: forged trademark registration certificates with transfer demands, or paid entries in private registers, have no effect equivalent to the official registration procedure.
Practice differs between offices, so "I received an e-mail" alone proves nothing either way. Check the office’s official domain, your application status, the fee item and the official notice; this page lists offices with explicit public statements, and in other cases verify with the office itself. Display names and e-mail addresses can also be forged.
The notice shows my application number. Does that make it genuine?
No. Application numbers, trademark images, applicant names and addresses may already be public in official gazettes or registers, so third parties can obtain them. Open the official system independently to check, and do not log in through links in the notice.
I have already paid. What now?
Contact your bank or payment provider immediately, explain the situation and ask whether the payment can be stopped or recovered; keep the notice, the original e-mail and the transaction record, then follow the official warning page to contact the office or the police. Never pay again to obtain a "refund".
How do I tell an agent’s fee notice?
Agents may collect official fees on your behalf and charge agreed service fees. Use your existing engagement contract and known contacts to check the service, the fee breakdown and the payee; a different payee does not by itself prove the notice is false. Do not confirm only through new contact details given in the notice.
What does a WIPO invoice look like?
Layout, logos or signatures cannot prove authenticity on their own. WIPO warns about private companies sending publication or registration fee requests to international registrants; go to eMadrid from the WIPO website to check your case, the fee schedule and official payment notices. An extra "registration fee" after international registration needs particular scrutiny, while other officially prescribed fees can still arise in specific procedures.
