1. Goods in the different parts of this similar group are not similar to one another;

2. Part (1) is cross-searched with lanterns for lighting in 1103 in the 11th and earlier editions and lanterns in 1103 in the 9th and earlier editions;

3. Part (2) is similar to lamps and lighting apparatus and installations in Part (1) and to anti-glare devices for vehicles and sun shades for vehicles in 1211, and is cross-searched with lighting apparatus and installations in Part (1) in the 11th and earlier editions, turn-signal devices for vehicles in 1211, and vehicle turn-signal lamps, vehicle turn-signal devices, vehicle anti-glare devices and vehicle sun shades in 1202 in the 9th and earlier editions;

4. Part (3) is similar to ultraviolet lamps for medical use in 1003, and is cross-searched with ultraviolet germicidal lamps for medical use in 1003 in the 12th and earlier editions;

5. lamps and lighting apparatus and installations in Part (1) are similar to the goods in Part (2) and to 1103;

6. ultraviolet lamps not for medical use in Part (3) are similar to curing lamps not for medical use in Part (4).

Practice notes (J&C)

This group has four parts, which are not similar to one another: (1) lamps, light bulbs, lighting apparatus, flashlights, etc.; (2) lamps for vehicles; (3) germicidal lamps, ultraviolet lamps not for medical use; (4) lamps for hair curling, nail-curing lamps, curing lamps. Official notes: “lamps and lighting apparatus and installations” in Part (1) are similar to Part (2) and to 1103 (note 5); Part (3) is similar to ultraviolet lamps for medical use in 1003; ultraviolet lamps not for medical use in Part (3) are similar to curing lamps not for medical use in Part (4) (note 6).

Changes in 2026: plant growth lamps and electric night lights were added to Part (1), and electric lights for Christmas trees were deleted. Lighting companies centre on Part (1); lighting installation is in 3706 of Class 37, and lighting design is in Class 42 (practical tip).
