1. Goods in the different parts of this similar group are not similar to one another;
2. Part (1) is cross-searched with timing hourglasses in 2106 in the 7th and earlier editions;
3. the goods in Part (5) are not deemed similar to one another;
4. Part (6) is cross-searched with palm-print verification machines in Part (3) in the 10th and earlier editions;
5. holograms are cross-searched with holograms in 0909 in the 10th and earlier editions.
Practice notes (J&C)
This group has seven parts, which are not similar to one another (official note 1): (1) counters, timers, pedometers, hourglasses, etc.; (2) postage-stamp checking apparatus; (3) banknote-checking machines, cash registers, automated teller machines (ATMs), POS terminals, self-checkout terminals and other financial and cashiering equipment; (4) coin-operated mechanisms; (5) dictation machines, holograms, voting machines, lottery drawing machines, etc., which are also not deemed similar to one another (note 3); (6) biometric scanners, facial-recognition equipment; (7) electronic ticket-issuing machines.
Cashiering and payment equipment companies centre on Part (3), but POS terminals and cash registers are not similar to computer hardware in 0901 or communication equipment in 0907, so product lines spanning these classes must be filed separately (practical tip). Biometric equipment is in Part (6), cross-searched with palm-print verification machines in Part (3) in the 10th and earlier editions (note 4); biometric locks are in 0920, not in this group.
Changes in 2026: “invoicing machines” was deleted from Part (3). Holograms are cross-searched with holograms in 0909 in the 10th and earlier editions (note 5).
