Notes on similar group 4401
Official notes (CNIPA Table of Similar Goods and Services, 2026 text; J&C reference translation)
1. The services in the different parts of this similar group are not similar to one another;
2. the parts are each cross-searched with the corresponding paragraphs of 4203 in the 7th and earlier editions;
3. Part (1) is similar to optometry services in 4405, and is cross-searched with massage (medical) in 4204 in the 7th and earlier editions;
4. Part (2) is similar to 4303;
5. medical massage is similar to massage in 4402.
Practice notes (J&C)
This group has three parts, which are not similar to one another: (1) hospitals, medical clinics, health care, medical massage, telemedicine services, etc.; (2) rehabilitation centres, convalescent homes, nursing homes, elderly-care centres; (3) dietary- and nutritional-advisory services and guidance. Official notes: Part (1) is similar to optometry services in 4405; massage (medical) is similar to massage in 4402.
In 2026 Part (1) added gua sha therapy, spa services and medical testing for diagnostic purposes. Medical-institution practice is subject to licensing; medical research is in 4212 of Class 42, and sale of medical devices is in 3509 of Class 35 (practical tip).
