Practice notes (J&C)
This group is divided by intended use into twenty parts (for the textile industry; for construction; fuel additives and antifreeze; for ceramics and glass; for batteries and electroplating; filtering materials; for foundries; for water treatment; descaling and degreasing; for paint-making; for rubber; drilling mud; abrasive auxiliary liquids; degumming agents; animal charcoal; anticorrosion and antimould; activated carbon; chemicals for pigments; other industrial chemicals; putty); the parts are not similar to one another, but all the goods are cross-searched with “chemicals for industrial use” in the 11th and earlier editions and “industrial chemicals” in the 10th and earlier editions (group note).
Part (19) is the catch-all part where “similar goods are determined according to the function and intended use of the goods” (note 1); catalysts, viscose fibre, unprocessed cellulose acetate and the like are all here, and it is advisable to state the specific use when filing items in this part (practical tip).
Cross-references with Classes 2 and 3: ceramic glazes in Part (4) are similar to porcelain enamel in 0205; varnish solvents in Part (10) are similar to paint thinners in 0205 and paint strippers in 0302; glaziers' putty in Part (20) is similar to putty for sealing joints (caulking putty) in 0205 and 1702.
