Notes on similar group 0919

1. This similar group is cross-searched with insulating gloves in 1706 in the 11th and earlier editions, fire escapes in 0916 in the 9th and earlier editions, and asbestos screens for firemen and asbestos shields for firefighters in 1705 in the 8th and earlier editions;
2. waterproof clothing is similar to waterproof garments in 2504;
3. ear plugs for diving are similar to ear plugs for swimming in 1004, and are cross-searched with ear plugs in 1004 in the 7th and earlier editions;
4. protective goggles for sports, protective goggles and anti-glare glasses are similar to 0921;
5. life buoys and life jackets are similar to water wings, swimming rings and swimming buoyancy vests in 2809, and are cross-searched with floats for bathing or swimming in 2809 in the 10th and earlier editions;
6. dry suits, dive skins and wetsuits are cross-searched with water-ski wetsuits in 2503 in the 11th and earlier editions;
7. nose clips for diving are similar to nose clips for swimming in 1004.
Editor's note: In the 2026 text, 0921 was deleted in its entirety and eyeglasses and their accessories were moved to 1011 of Class 10; the note to 1011 states that they are similar to the sports goggles and protective goggles in this group.
Practice notes (J&C)
This group covers protective and lifesaving articles: clothing for protection against accidents, radiation and fire, safety helmets, protective masks, respiratory masks, diving suits, fire escapes, safety nets, life buoys, life jackets, etc. There are major changes in 2026: riot shields, emergency showers and breathing regulators for diving were added; “nose clips for diving and swimming” was changed to “nose clips for diving” and note 7 was added (similar to nose clips for swimming in 1004); personal devices for the prevention of accidents were deleted; anti-glare glasses were moved to 1011 of Class 10, life rafts and lifeboats to 1210, and escape chairs to 1211.
Many cross-class relationships: waterproof clothing is similar to waterproof garments in 2504 (note 2); life buoys and life jackets are similar to swimming rings and buoyancy vests in 2809 (note 5); ear plugs and nose clips for diving are similar to 1004 (notes 3 and 7); insulating gloves are cross-searched with 1706 in the 11th and earlier editions (note 1). Labour-protection companies are advised to also search Classes 10, 25 and 28 (practical tip).
Note 4's “similar to 0921”: 0921 was deleted as a whole in 2026 and its eyewear items moved to 1011; the new note to 1011 states explicitly that they are similar to the protective goggles for sports and protective goggles in this group, so search under 1011.
