1-1-2012 Pursuant to the 10th Edition of the Nice Agreement, the 3-24-2011 entry "wheat-free and gluten-free {indicate types of food, e.g., pasta, crackers, etc.} to accommodate special medical and health conditions" has been amended to replace the wording "to accommodate" with "for the treatment of" because under the 10th Edition, descriptions of dietetic substances must either specify that they are adapted for medical use or otherwise make clear that the substance is for the treatment of a medical condition. The nature of the food or beverage (e.g., bread, tea, etc.) must also be specified in the identification. 01-01-2017 - Effective 01-01-2017, dietetic foods and beverages adapted for medical use is acceptable wording; specification of the particular dietetic food or beverage items is acceptable, but it is not required.
