Sweden's PRV Raises PCT Search Fees: From 1 December, the International, Additional and Supplementary Search Fees Are All SEK 21,210

Sweden's IP office, the PRV (Patent- och registreringsverket / Swedish Intellectual Property Office), announced on 13 October that, due to currency adjustments, from 1 December 2026 the PCT search fees it charges as an International Searching Authority will change to a single equivalent amount: SEK 21,210.

## Three fees, one number

The new amount applies to three search-related fees, all SEK 21,210:

  • International search fee: SEK 21,210.
  • Additional fee for non-unity inventions (lack of unity): SEK 21,210.
  • Supplementary International Search fee: SEK 21,210.

That is up from SEK 19,950, in force since April 2026, a rise of about SEK 1,260. The PRV describes it as re-establishing the equivalent amount in line with exchange rates, not a change to the fee structure.

Who should take note

The impact is clear-cut: applicants who choose the PRV as their International Searching Authority (ISA) in the PCT, or who ask the PRV for a supplementary international search (SIS). The new amounts apply from 1 December 2026.

J&C notes that this is a clean budget and payment milestone: if your PCT application will use the PRV for search and the relevant payment is likely to fall around 1 December, recalculate against the new SEK 21,210; where multiple inventions trigger an additional search fee for lack of unity, add the same unit amount again; paying before the effective date can still attract the old fee where time limits allow, but do not compromise procedural deadlines just to save on fees. Because these amounts float with exchange rates, check the PRV's current notice before you pay.
