03-07-2013 - Antimicrobial preparations are in Class 5 because "Disinfectants" is in the Nice Alphabetical List in Class 5. On 03-14-2013, this 03-07-2013 entry was changed from "Biostatic antimicrobial preparations for treating and preventing the growth of bacteria, etc." to the current wording to make clear the nature of the goods and the justification for classifying them in Class 5. These finished products are classified in Class 5 because they function as "biocides," which are in the Nice Alphabetical List in Class 5. "Biocides" are, by definition, chemicals capable of destroying living organisms. Therefore, the inhibiting function of the goods is ancillary to its primary function of treating the organisms.
