03-28-2013 - Antimicrobial preparations are substances that destroy or suppress the growth of organisms and microorganisms. These finished products are classified in Class 5 because they function as "biocides," which are in the Nice Alphabetical List in Class 5. Although chemical additives for use in manufacturing are generally in Class 1, the antimicrobial nature of the additive controls the classification.
