South Korea Sets a 24-Hour Takedown Track for Platform IP Complaints
According to policy information released on August 26, 2026, South Korea’s Ministry of Intellectual Property (MOIP), working with Korea Customs and major e-commerce platforms including Coupang and Naver, has introduced a faster online IP enforcement channel. Right holders presenting an officially issued Korean design right certificate or copyright registration may use a dedicated digital IP enforcement gateway to submit a request; once approved, participating platforms are expected to carry out a coordinated takedown within 24 hours. Compared with the previous model of filing separate complaints with each platform’s legal team, the new process centralizes proof of rights, review and platform action, with an obvious focus on shortening the lifespan of infringing listings during peak cross-border shopping campaigns.
For brands and cross-border sellers, the practical shift is not just speed. It moves evidence preparation earlier in the process. Right holders will need certificates, listing URLs and comparison materials ready before a campaign starts, while sellers have a stronger reason to clear product designs and copyrighted content before launch. A 24-hour takedown can sharply reduce the commercial window for disputed listings, but it is not the same as a final infringement ruling, so review, appeal and safeguards against erroneous removal will remain important to the system’s credibility.
